I began writing songs as a young teenager, during a difficult childhood marked by my father’s struggle with alcohol. Music became my refuge—an outlet for pain, a path toward healing, and a way to make sense of the chaos around me. Now, in my 60s, I’m opening the vault and sharing many of the songs I’ve written over the years—raw expressions drawn from a lifetime of experiences.
These songs speak honestly of addiction, love, struggle, faith, and redemption. They carry the weight of real life, but also the hope I’ve found along the way.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching, performing, and seeing my songs find life on television and through the voices of other artists. Now, having passed the milestone of sixty, I recognize that those vibrant seasons have gently given way to a quieter chapter. I sense that God is leading me simply to make these songs available—to release them freely into the hands and hearts of those who feel called to use them.
These songs are free to download (under the Songs tab at the top of the page), so you can enjoy them anytime on your mobile device. If you’re a musician or artist who would like to share them in a concert or a place of worship, you have my full permission to do so. Just email me if you’d like the chord charts.
Enjoy—and may you be blessed.
Sincerely,
Robert Sobers
As I journeyed towards achieving my ARTC level, I chose to pause and immerse myself in the exploration of jazz, rock fusion, and blues and songwriting.
Music theory involves the analysis of the elements that make up music, such as rhythm, harmony, and melody. It offers a structured understanding of how these components interact, enabling musicians to both interpret and create music more effectively.
